Library Cards
Library cards are issued free of charge to any City of Aubrey or County of Denton resident. Library cards are issued in person, at the library, upon presentation of identification, and with proof of address. The library accepts the following current and signed photo identification:
- Texas or out-of-state drivers license
- Texas Identification card
- United States passport
- Foreign passport
- Alien Registration Card
- Military Identification
If the photo identification does not contain the current and correct address, then one additional form of address verification must be presented. Address verification must contain the same name as the photo identification. The library accepts the following address verification:
- Preprinted Checks
- Utility Bills
- Insurance Cards
- Mail or Junk Mail
- Etc.
Individuals under the age of 17 must have a parent or legal guardian with them when applying for a library card. Library records of minors will be linked to the parent or legal guardian’s account. Library cardholders are responsible for all items checked out on their card and on the cards of minor children.
A $50.00 annual membership fee is required for a library card for out-of County residents as of September 1, 2014. Paid memberships will be valid for one year from the date of issue.
You may apply for a library card online. Library cards can only be picked up in person at the library upon proof of ID.
Library cards for Denton County residents will be valid for three years when issued.
Patron Accounts
The patron will be considered to be in good standing when fines, fees, limits, and holds are below $10.00. Patrons may make payments on their accounts to keep them in good standing.
New Card Limits
All patrons are limited to checkout of two items per person on the first visit to the Library. When those two items are returned, patrons will receive full benefits of membership.
Checkout Limits
Most items may be renewed twice, for a maximum of six weeks use.
Overdue fines are levied for each day past the due date that an item is late returning to the Library. Fines are not charged for days the Library is closed.
Fines and Fees Limits
Minimal Damage Fee - $2.00 flat fee: assessed for minor water damage, edge or corner damage, very small amount of writing in or on the book, torn pages, etc. The material has been damaged but is still in usable condition for library purposes.
Maximum fine, books, media, and periodicals $5.00: The maximum amount of overdue fines that will accrue per item.
Lost Materials
- $2.00 charge for lost media cases.
- $1.00 charge for replacing a lost library card.
- List price charge for items that are lost for damage beyond repair.
- A $3.00 processing fee per item is added to the list price for lost or damaged items.
Renewals
- With the exception of new materials and kits, items may be renewed twice if no reserves have been placed on them.
- Renewal loan periods are the same as regular loan periods of 2 weeks.
- Renewal periods take effect from the day the renewal is made, not from the end date of the regular loan period.
Holds
Any item in the circulating collection may be reserved, held for registered patrons. The Library will hold an item for seven days. New materials will be held for two days. Patrons are limited to a maximum of five active holds. Items in heavy demand may accumulate numerous holds. The Library will acquire duplicate copies of these items as specified in the Collection Development Plan and as budgetary constraints permit to fill the requests in a reasonable amount of time.
